South Coast Training Camp 1-4 March 2012
« on: January 12, 2012, 06:44:05 AM »
South Coast Training Camp
Cost: $160 pp includes 3 nights in a self-contained beachside accommodation and vehicle support.  Challenging rides for all levels

Where?: Camp will be based in Kiama and the rides will be in the mountainous Kiama hinterland / Southern Highlands

When?: Thursday 1 March – Sunday 4 March (plus optional ride down to Kiama on Wednesday 29 February)

Accommodation?: 3 nights accommodation in beach-front holiday houses in Kiama. Linen is not supplied in some houses so you may need to bring a sheet set and towel – you will be advised closer to the date of the camp.

Training rides: The ride routes as below ( Note that there are easier options on Thursday and Friday if you wish to take them.)

Extra Curricular Activities: If you’ve got the energy there is a heap of stuff to do when you’re not riding. Invite the family down, hit the beach, go to Jamberoo Rec Park, Minnamurra Rainforest, Illawarra Fly etc.

Vehicle Support: Bob Mellor has kindly volunteered his services again this year . Bob will provide a following vehicle each day, stocked with water, lollies and plenty of cycling yarns.

Getting there: There will be an optional ride down to Kiama on the afternoon of Wednesday 29 Feb for those that are keen. Otherwise, drive, organise a lift or catch the train. Note that Sunday’s ride is a ride home.

Deposit: A deposit in full is required by 6 February to secure your place on the camp. Money to Neil Thorburn John Peters (whilst Craig Hawkins is on Holiday)

THE RIDES

Day 0 (Optional) – Wednesday 29 Feb (no acccomodation booked though)

Optional ride down to Kiama if you’re up for it. Start time 1 pm. Ride distance = 100 km

Day 1 – Thursday 1 March

• Start time 7 am. Ride distance 152 km

• Route is Kiama – Saddleback – Jamberoo – Robertson – Bowral - Kangaroo Valley – Berry – Kiama

• Food/coffee stop at Bowral (70 km). Water/lolly stops along the way.

• Pace will be steady with plenty of climbs to keep the blood pumping

• Should be back in time for an afternoon dip at the beach

• Easier Options – 1) skip Saddleback Mountain and head straight for Jamberoo and/or 2) return directly

from Bowral and avoid Kangaroo Valley.

Day 2 – Friday 2 March

And you thought Jindabyne was tough !

• Start time 7 am. Full Ride = 181 km

• Kiama – Macquarie Pass – Robertson – Kangaroo Valley – Cambewarra – Kangaroo Valley –

Jamberoo – Saddleback – Kiama

• Easier options 1) Turn at Robertson and return via Jamberoo (80 km ride), or 2) turn at Kangaroo

Valley (150 km ride). Also you could skip Saddleback on the way home if nobody is looking.

• Pace will start steady and no doubt become painfully slow as the day wears on.

3200 m of climbing!

Day 3 – Saturday 3 March

A rest day is definitely in order. Pick an easy ride along the beach to Minnamurra and back (30 km) or down to Shoalhaven Heads and back (50 km).

Invite the family down and spend the day on the beach, at Jamberoo Recreation Park or maybe a beautifulwalk through Minnamurra Rainforest.

Day 4 – Sunday 4 March

• Ride home! Start time 8 am. Ride distance = 100 km

• Most of you will know the route via Shellharbour and Wollongong

• Pace will be easy

Fellow club members... can we please make an effor to put your name forward for the training camp and bring the deposit this Friday night. 2 houses have been booked. This is a great few days riding with lots of hills and lots of KM's and plenty of options (less kms/hills) along the way depending on what level of rider you are.

Lots of people have said they are going but only a few have paid the deposit. Please make an effort to help confirm numbers this Friday night.

Thanks
Aiden ;)

Hey
Its hard enough organising something like this , so get your finger out and pay or those that stuff Craig about can stay with Bob and learn all about crank lengh, trust me you'll never be late again.
On a serious note why stuff him around you're either going or not so stop hedging your bet

I think that was my fault as i had copied the previous itenary which included riding down on the wednesday whereas accomodtion starts from the Thursday evening.

If there are enough riders going down on the Wednesday we can add an extra night (i think its around $350) per night
